1-Year-Old Saved from Near Drowning in Apple Valley

A 1-year-old was rescued from a near drowning in Apple Valley on Labor Day. Firefighters respond to a call at the 13700 block of Cuyamaca Road Monday evening. According to family members, the baby was found submerged in the backyard pool. He was taken to St. Mary Medical Center. He had a pulse upon admission to the hospital, but further details on his condition have not been released.

Another near drowning occurred in Apple Valley in late July, when a father was doing yard work and found his son at the bottom of their backyard pool. Fortunately the child was rescued in time and survived.

Although summer break has come to an end, most pools will remain open for at least another month. Parents and caregivers are urged to continue to take pool safety seriously. Drowning often happens when children are out of sight for under 5 minutes, so it’s crucial that children be under constant adult supervision if they are anywhere near water. Here are 5 things you should know to help prevent drowning incidents.

“We’re praying for this baby boy’s quick recovery. Parents, always be alert when your children are around water and don’t ever let them play in or near a pool unsupervised,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
