Apple Valley Official Denies Involvement in Hit-and-Run

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) continues to investigate the involvement of an Apple Valley official in a hit-and-run on I-15 last month. According to officials, Apple Valley Assistant Town Manager Marc Puckett’s 2011 black Cadillac CTS was involved in a rear-end hit-and-run on the night of July 20.

Puckett claims to have been in an incident the night of July 20, but he says he was not involved in the hit-and-run. According to Puckett, he was driving his vehicle when he descended into a flood control channel off I-15. He claims that something ran out in front of him, causing him to veer off the road. Moreover, he insists no other vehicles were involved.

However, the CHP report tells a different story. According to the driver who was rear-ended, the Cadillac was traveling at an unsafe speed when it crashed into Lola Espinoza’s Toyota Prius. The Cadillac then traveled down the embankment and the Prius came to a stop in the No. 4 lane.

The Prius sustained major damage including a crushed rear bumper and a shattered rear windshield. Espinoza was transported to an area hospital for complaints of pain in her wrist, neck and back. She could not identify the driver or the vehicle that hit her.

Puckett’s Vehicle Left at Scene with Front-End Damage

When authorities arrived, the Cadillac’s driver had fled the scene. The Cadillac sustained front-end damage including a crumpled hood and broken front bumper. Puckett claims his cell phone died and he used someone else’s phone to call his son, who picked him up.

The CHP is still investigating the hit-and-run, and they have yet to name Puckett as the driver. However, Puckett has received a letter of involvement to establish the identity of the driver involved in the crash.

“We are confident the CHP investigators will determine who caused this crash and hold that person responsible. Being a government official does not exclude you from penalty for committing a felony hit-and-run,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
