Was Bicyclist Struck in Hesperia Cycling Under the Influence?

A bicyclist was struck on Ranchero Road in Hesperia last month. The collision happened around 7 a.m. near Topaz Avenue. According to witnesses, the bicyclist was struck by a classic Chevy pickup truck after trying to dart across Ranchero Road. The bicyclist was able to get up and walk around immediately following the crash. Witnesses also say they saw the victim toss a bottle of Fireball whiskey into a nearby bush after getting up from the crash.

The bicyclist, a unidentified man who appears to be in his 30s, was transported to Desert Valley Hospital for minor injuries. The driver of the pickup truck remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. The accident is under investigation.

While it remains to be seen if the bicyclist was truly under the influence when the crash occurred, it’s important to note that cycling under the influence is against California state law. Bicycling under the influence (CUI) is a misdemeanor that can result in a fine and the suspension of your driver’s license. If the bicyclist is drunk enough to pose a risk to himself or others, he might also be charged with public intoxication.

“Bicyclists face enough risks on the road without adding alcohol impairment to the mix,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
