2-Year-Old Injured After Falling from Minivan Window

A 2-year-old injured in a Victorville crash at Amargosa and King Ranch roads sustained only minor injuries in June when a Mazda MPV pulling out of a parking lot broadsided a Nissan Altima that was traveling south on Amargosa Road. According to the Victorville Sheriff’s station, the Altima had the right of way.

The 2-year-old injured in the crash was airlifted to Loma Linda Medical Center with unspecified injuries. Early reports said the child was ejected from the vehicle, but new information from the sheriff’s department says the 2-year-old girl somehow fell out of the window of the MPV. No details about how this happened have been released, and the investigation is ongoing. It is unclear whether or not the child was properly restrained in a car seat. Authorities do not suspect drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.

Correctly restraining a child in a car seat is the best way to reduce their risk of death or serious injury in a crash. Toddlers ages 1 to 4 are 54% less likely to die in a crash if they are correctly restrained in a car seat.

“If this child was in a car seat, it seems unlikely that she was properly restrained at the time of the crash. Car seats are only effective if parents are diligent about correctly securing them,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
