Three people sustained injuries in a crash between a VVTA bus and a tractor-trailer Monday in Hesperia. The crash occurred at the intersection of Cottonwood Avenue and Mesa Street around 4:45 p.m.
The bus carrying five passengers was traveling north on Cottonwood Avenue when it was struck by the tractor-trailer. For unknown reasons, the westbound tractor-trailer pulled out in front of the bus, causing the accident.
Three of the VVTA bus passengers suffered minor injuries in the crash. Two of the victims went to the hospital for treatment. Authorities then briefly shut down a stretch of Cottonwood Avenue while they investigated. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
Large Truck Crashes on the Rise
Large truck and bus crashes causing injury increased by 55% from 2009 to 2014, according to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). Additionally, the large truck involvement rate in crashes resulting in injuries increased by 21% from 2013 to 2014.
“Our thoughts are with the victims recovering from this accident. Big rig accidents are a consistent problem in our community, and we must continue to work toward reducing these crashes,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
