Bicyclist Killed in Rancho Mirage Accident

Bicyclist Killed in Rancho Mirage Accident

A bicyclist was fatally struck by a utility truck in Rancho Mirage Monday morning. The fatal crash occurred just after 10 a.m. on Bob Hope Drive near Victory Lane. The bicyclist has been identified as 74-year-old Peter Harvey of Victoria, British Columbia.

According to investigators, a Chevrolet utility truck entered the bicycle lane on northbound Bob Hope Drive. The truck then crashed into Harvey’s bike. By the time officers arrived at the scene, the bicyclist had passed away.

The driver of the truck was not injured and is cooperating with the investigation. So far, police have ruled out drugs and alcohol as factors in the collision. Bob Hope Drive was closed from Dinah Shore Drive to Gerald Ford Drive until about 3 p.m.

“Our thoughts are with the victim’s loved ones. Road safety is a serious concern in Rancho Mirage that city leaders must address,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
