Funding Families During the Crisis
Funding Families During the Crisis

Although coronavirus has fundamentally altered the way of life for Americans and individuals around the world, this doesn’t mean that it has to overcome us. Such is the mentality of a growing number of aid organizations that are “crowdsourcing” funding in order to help families in need.

In the Coachella Valley, a new “Coachella Valley Economic Protection Plan” is being organized by Lift to Rise in conjunction with United Way of the Desert. As part of the plan, families who are in serious economic need due to loss of employment or other business closure issues can apply for an immediate $200 subsidy. Not only are eligible families receiving this $200, but they are also being connected with economic and community resources to help them secure a stable footing for the near future. For example, an applicant to the Economic Protection Plan can also receive incredibly valuable information about housing, food supplies, medical care opportunities and more.

Once a family has been approved for the emergency funding, they will receive a check in the mail within seven days. Lift to Rise has also made it a priority to let applicants know that not everyone will qualify for the funding. More information about the application can be found here.

While it is obvious that $200 can’t solve all of the problems these families are facing, it is the hope pf groups such as Life to Rise that their actions will inspire similar organizations to give back to the community. In difficult times such as these, it is often the acts of a few which can make the difference for a family in need.
