Hit-and-Run Memorial Stolen
Hit-and-Run Memorial Stolen

On the night of October 21st, 2019, Raymundo Jaime was struck and killed by a car in Palm Springs while he was riding his bicycle. Whoever struck Raymundo did not stop or call the police. To this day, the identity of the driver remains unknown.

In honor of Raymundo, his wife Desiree partnered with the Coachella Valley Bike Coalition to create the “Ghost Bike Memorial“. The memorial consisted of a single white bike along with several candles, and was designed not only to commemorate the loss of Raymundo but also to promote awareness of the inherent dangers in this stretch of road.

Unfortunately, the memorial has been removed by an unknown individual only months after the fatal accident occurred. Jaime’s family was devastated by the theft, and has since turned to the community in hopes of funding a new bicycle to commemorate his passing.

At this time, suspects for both the hit-and-run and the memorial theft have not been identified. Individuals who may have information about either incident are encouraged to speak with the police as soon as possible. For those commuters riding bicycles in this area, please remember to be extra vigilant!
