Blythe Big Rig Crash Shuts Down Eastbound I-10

A Blythe big rig crash caused major traffic backups and a subsequent car accident early Thursday morning. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a tanker rear-ended a big rig on eastbound I-10 near Wiley’s Well Road, east of the Coachella Valley. The big rig crash occurred around 12:25 a.m.

The collision caused traffic to slow, and a second rear-end crash occurred. A driver suffered injuries in that collision and had to be airlifted to the hospital. The crash shut down both eastbound lanes. One lane reopened at 4:17 a.m.

The Blythe big rig crash also resulted in a fuel spill in the center divider. The CHP says roughly 200 gallons of fuel was spilled in the accident. A hazardous materials crew responded to the scene for cleanup.

Big Rig Crash Site has Seen Rise in Accidents

Thursday’s collision happened along the stretch of I-10 east of the Coachella Valley that has seen a sharp rise in big rig accidents in recent months. Motorists should be especially careful when traveling on this stretch of I-10. Eliminate distractions and make sure you never drive while sleep deprived or intoxicated.

“There have been far too many big rig crashes on I-10 in the past year. Driving along this highway has become dangerous for motorists,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
