Car Carrier Driver Sets Off Eight-Vehicle Crash
motion

The car carrier driver who caused an eight-car pileup on northbound Highway 101 in Sonoma County on Tuesday was driving on a suspended license. California Highway Patrol (CHP) officials say 46-year-old William Sanford was driving a carrier loaded with cars when he struck a Dodge Ram pickup truck at 11:50 a.m. The Ram overturned, striking several vehicles. The big rig continued driving, striking more vehicles. One of the cars being carried on the big rig fell onto the center divider.

The CHP says Sanford took his eyes off the road and didn’t realize traffic had come to a standstill. The Ram driver, 59-year-old Boris Ivanov sustained injuries including a broken arm. Sanford was also hospitalized for unspecified pain. Officials later discovered Sanford was driving on a suspended license.

“Investigators need to find out how this big rig driver was able to get behind the wheel with a suspended license, and the company should be held responsible,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
