A head-on traffic collision in Victorville left a child injured Saturday evening. The crash occurred around 7 p.m. on Mojave Drive west of Village Drive. Police say a white Toyota 4Runner collided head-on with a dark-colored Land Rover. Both vehicles sustained major damage.

A witness at the scene said a mother and son were in the 4Runner, and the boy appeared to have a broken leg. Authorities airlifted the child to Loma Linda University Medical Center for his injuries.

The witness also said bystanders attempted to help the female driver of the Land Rover, but she yelled at them and refused assistance. Witnesses saw the driver’s cell phone in the street ringing. Emergency responders transported the driver to Victor Valley Global Medical Center. Police investigating head-on traffic collision have not ruled out alcohol or drugs as contributors to the crash.

Authorities closed down Mojave Drive from Don Roberto Road to Topanga Avenue while they assisted the victims and cleared the scene. The roadway reopened shortly after.

“Our prayers are with the child who was injured in this crash. Whether this driver was under the influence or distracted by her phone, she made a decision that sent a child to the hospital. That is unacceptable,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
