Civilian Tip Leads to Hit-and-Run Suspect’s Arrest

The hit-and-run suspect who struck and killed a bicyclist in Cathedral City Saturday and fled the scene has been arrested. Police say information from a civilian led them to the suspect roughly seven hours after the incident occurred. The bicyclist was struck around 10 a.m. Saturday on Ramon Road west of Landau Boulevard. The victim was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center, where he passed away from his injuries.

Some lanes of Ramon Road were closed during the investigation. Police reported that the hit-and-run suspect was likely driving a green Jeep Cherokee. A civilian gave authorities information that led them to the suspect around 5 p.m. The names of the suspect and victim have not yet been released.

In 2013, 900 bicyclists were killed in a crash, and another 494,000 went to the emergency room for injuries. A big part of the problem is the way motorists treat bicyclists on the road. Read over our 5 safety tips for driving around bicyclists to make sure you don’t become part of the problem.

“If you have information about a crime, coming forward with it to the proper authorities can really make a difference. We’re thankful this civilian was able to help police catch a dangerous hit-and-run driver,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
