Is Dangerous Intersection to Blame for Three-Vehicle Crash?

Nine people were injured in a three-vehicle crash in Hesperia last Tuesday afternoon. The crash occurred at the corner of Locust Avenue and Sequoia Street around 3:46 p.m. According to witnesses and the police investigation, a Dodge Ram truck heading north on Locust Avenue failed to yield to oncoming traffic and collided with a black Dodge Caravan heading east on Sequoia Street. The van then collided with a westbound Dodge Challenger.

The Caravan was carrying one adult and five children. One of the children had to be rescued from the vehicle and a teenager was ejected during the crash. All six Caravan occupants were taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center; three of them were airlifted with major injuries. By Wednesday, the adult and two children were released from the hospital. The other three children were in stable condition at the hospital.

The Dodge Ram was only carrying the driver, who was not injured in the crash. The Challenger was occupied by two adults and a teenager, who were all transported to Desert Valley Hospital with minor injuries.

A local resident says there have been several accidents at the same intersection. Apparently the city changed the direction of the stop signs to help solve the problem, by changing who has the right of way. But the accidents continue to occur.

“At a busy intersection like this where accidents occur frequently, changing around the stop signs isn’t much of a solution. A stoplight would be a more appropriate resolution to what is clearly a dangerous intersection,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
