A 21-year-old man was killed in a two-vehicle collision on Bear Valley Road last month. The crash was reported near the intersection of Bear Valley Road and Dunia Road at 5:09 p.m. Police say a 2000 Chevrolet Camaro and a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe collided for unknown reasons. The driver of the Camaro, Carlos Velasquez of Victor Valley, was trapped in the vehicle.

San Bernardino County firefighters freed Velasquez from the Camaro around 5:30 p.m. He and the driver of the Tahoe were both transported to Desert Valley Hospital. Velasquez was then airlifted to Loma Linda Medical Center. He succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

The Tahoe driver, identified as Manuel Medina-Chavez, suffered minor injuries in the crash. Police are investigating the cause of the two-vehicle collision, but so far alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors.

The crash caused significant traffic delays in the area, as Bear Valley Road was closed in both directions from Pacoima Road to Mall Boulevard until 10:30 p.m.

“Unfortunately, we’ve seen far too many serious collisions on Bear Valley Road this year. Let’s hope positive changes like increased driver education and road improvements will help reduce these deadly crashes in the coming year,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
