Two paramedics were injured when an SUV driver crashed head-on into an ambulance in Apple Valley earlier this month. The American Medical Response ambulance was responding to an emergency when it was struck head-on by a Chevy Tahoe. The crash happened at the intersection of Rock Springs Road and Deep Creek Road around 1:30 p.m.

The ambulance was traveling south on Deep Creek Road with its lights and sirens on and was stopped right before the intersection. Other vehicles approaching the intersection pulled over to yield to the ambulance. The Tahoe went around the stopped vehicles, then crashed head-on into the ambulance.

The driver of the Tahoe got out of the vehicle and took off on foot. The EMT who was driving the ambulance was taken to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for minor injuries. The paramedic sustained a head injury and was airlifted to the hospital.

There is no word about the whereabouts of the hit-and-run suspect. He has been described as a male Hispanic adult and was wearing a black T-shirt at the time of the crash. He fled on foot northbound on Deep Creek Road. According to scanner reports, the SUV he was driving was reported stolen.

California state law requires drivers to slow down and vacate the lane closest to an emergency response vehicle if it is safe to do so.

“Obviously we are dealing with a suspect who has no regard for the law who has no business being behind the wheel. We hope police are able to apprehend him, and we are wishing the two injured first responders a quick recovery,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
