Fatal Rollover Crash Victim was not Properly Restrained

A 5-year-old was killed after she was ejected from a vehicle in a rollover crash on northbound I-15 Sunday night. Police say 24-year-old Miguel Amador was driving in the No. 1 lane when his car drifted to the left for unknown reasons. Amador tried to return the Honda to the No. 1 lane, but he lost control of the vehicle. It skidded across the northbound lanes and overturned down an embankment. Five-year-old Leah Amador was ejected and suffered fatal injuries.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the child was not using safety equipment when the crash occurred. The driver and a 22-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries. A 1-month-old girl was also in the vehicle during the crash, but she was uninjured. The CHP continues to investigate the deadly rollover crash.

Proper use of a car seat is the most effective way to prevent children from being injured or killed in a crash. Sadly, many children lose their lives every year in crashes because they were not restrained in a car seat. Of the 451 children ages 8 and under who were killed in motor vehicle crashes in 2014, 26% were not restrained in an age-appropriate car seat or seat belt.

“We’re praying for the family of this little girl who lost her life in this horrible accident,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
