FDA Issues Warning Letter to EpiPen Manufacturer

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has sent a warning letter to EpiPen manufacturer Meridian Medical Technologies. The letter states that the manufacturer failed to investigate claims about the EpiPens failing to activate or dispensing prior to use.

Meridian recalled the EpiPens in March. However, the FDA says the company only recalled the products after having multiple conversations with the FDA and the inspection had closed. Moreover, Meridian received hundreds of complaints from consumers who claimed the EpiPens failed to operate in emergencies. In some of these instances, patients actually died as a result. Meridian allegedly failed to investigate the complaints and get the defective products off the market promptly.

Manufacturer’s Response was Inadequate

The warning letter states that Meridian’s response to the situation was inadequate. The FDA has also called for Meridian to conduct a comprehensive review of its products. They have given the company 15 days to review its manufacturing investigations and provide a plan for addressing safety risks.

“Many people rely on these life-saving devices in an emergency. The manufacturer has a responsibility to these consumers, and their failure to take action in this situation is concerning,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
