Indio High School Girl Fatally Struck on I-10

A 15-year-old girl was fatally struck on eastbound I-10 Wednesday night. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the pedestrian was struck by multiple vehicles sometime around 5:30 p.m. The woman allegedly fell from the Jackson Street Bridge onto the busy roadway.

Vehicles were swerving out of the way to avoid the body, and several pulled off the road. Police received multiple calls from motorists reporting the incident.

All eastbound lanes were closed at Monroe Street for four hours. Traffic was diverted off the freeway at Jackson Street during the closure. Traffic was backed up in both directions during the shutdown.

Indio Police received a report about a woman overlooking the freeway from the bridge just moments before the teenager was fatally struck. Police are still trying to determine how the teen ended up on the freeway. Anyone who has information should contact the Indio CHP at (757) 772-8911.

“Our hearts go out to the girl’s friends and family,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
