Injured Hang Glider Rescued in Lake Elsinore

Firefighters rescued an injured hang glider from a remote area of Lake Elsinore Saturday afternoon. The hang glider crashed in rugged terrain near Main Divide Road south of Ortega Highway. Cal Fire, Riverside County sheriff’s deputies and the U.S. Forest Service all responded to the incident around 1:44 p.m.

Injured Hang Glider Airlifted to Safety

Witnesses assisted the first responders in locating the injured hang glider. Paramedics treated the man at the scene. He was then hoisted from the crash site and airlifted to the ground, where an ambulance was waiting. The ambulance transported him to a local hospital. Authorities say he suffered moderate injuries. However, it is unclear what caused the hang glider to crash.

The United States Hang-Gliding and Paragliding Association says they do not track the number of hang-gliding accidents that occur each year. However, as with any sport, participants should understand the safety risks and take the proper precautions to minimize them.

“Hang gliding is a risky activity, and small mistakes can be detrimental. We’re just glad this man did not suffer severe injuries,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
