Lawsuit Filed Against Invokana Diabetes Drug
motion

Johnson & Johnson and subsidiary Janssen Pharmaceuticals face another lawsuit, this time for wrongful death caused by its Invokana diabetes drug. The family of Ide Mae Jones Jackson is suing the company, claiming the diabetes drug caused Jackson to suffer diabetic ketoacidosis, kidney damage, a heart attack and a stroke, which led to her death on February 6.

The Louisiana lawsuit claims Johnson & Johnson knew or should have known about the severe potential side effects of the Invokana diabetes drug, and chose to withhold the information from consumers and doctors when they began marketing the product in 2013.

According to the lawsuit, Jackson was not warned of the serious health risks of Invoking when she started taking the drug in February 2015. The case is now one of many Invokana lawsuits against the pharmaceutical company.

In May 2015, the FDA investigated Invokana after receiving reports that it caused ketoacidosis. Their findings prompted them to order Johnson & Johnson to add warnings about ketoacidosis and decreased bone density as potential side effects.

“If the drug manufacturer withheld information about Invokana’s side effects, they should be held accountable for the suffering consumers faced from taking the drug,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
