A fatal Apple Valley collision last Wednesday killed a driver and shut down Bear Valley Road for several hours. A 1995 Honda Civic was traveling west on Bear Valley Road when an eastbound 2016 Cadillac Crossover made a left turn in front of the vehicle at the intersection of Westmont Drive. The Civic crashed into the side of the Cadillac around 3 p.m.

The Civic driver, 41-year-old Michael Rafael Gonzalez of Apple Valley, passed away at a local hospital from injuries sustained in the crash. Shirley Perrotta, the 77-year-old Cadillac driver, suffered minor injuries.

Bear Valley Road was closed between Apple Valley and Deep Creek Roads for several hours while authorities investigated the fatal Apple Valley collision.

A lefthand turn can be a dangerous maneuver if the driver doesn’t take the right precautions. Brush up on your left turn skills with our helpful checklist.

“Our thoughts are with the family of the victim. It’s so important to make sure the coast is really clear before making a lefthand turn. Not doing so can have deadly consequences,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
