Motorcyclist Killed in I-15 Tractor-Trailer Crash

A tractor-trailer crash on I-15 took the life of a 33-year-old motorcyclist early Wednesday morning. The fatal crash occurred south of Oak Hill Road around 5:45 a.m. The motorcyclist was speeding on southbound I-15 in a 1998 Suzuki GSF 1200 when he crashed into a Hino white box truck. Witnesses say the motorcycle was going more than 80 mph right before the crash.

The impact of the crash threw the motorcyclist and he landed near the freeway’s center divider. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver, 51-year-old Dwayne Filmer of Tustin, was uninjured. Police say he stopped after the crash happened and waited for authorities to arrive.

The tractor-trailer crash caused significant traffic delays in the morning. The No. 1 southbound lane was closed so police could investigate and clear the scene, but traffic was moving smoothly again by the afternoon.

The motorcyclist’s speed is being investigated as a potential factor in the crash. In 2013, 34% of motorcyclists involved in fatal crashes were speeding, according to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) data.

“Speeding through traffic on a motorcycle is gambling with your life. Be safe by following the speed limit and riding with caution at all times,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
