Manny Bustamante is a trial attorney in Walter Clark Legal Group’s Rancho Mirage office. Prior to practicing civil litigation, Manny was a Senior Deputy District Attorney for almost thirteen years with the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office. As a prosecutor, Manny excelled in courtroom litigation. Eighteen months after passing the bar and becoming a prosecutor, he obtained a first degree murder conviction in his first homicide trial. Manny quickly promoted and spent most of his career trying numerous jury trials involving serious and violent felonies, including three years as a gang prosecutor. His last eight years were in the Homicide Unit, where he exclusively prosecuted complex and difficult homicide cases, many of which were high profile. He completed over twenty five murder trials, including five capital cases. As a leader in the District Attorney’s Office, Manny also served three terms as an elected board member for the Riverside County Deputy District Attorney Association where he actively participated in contract negotiations and disciplinary matters involving fellow association members.
In addition to his success in the courtroom, Manny also received recognition for his service and work on behalf of victims. He received multiple awards, including Prosecutor of the Year recognition four separate years. He also earned a reputation with judicial officers, courtroom staff, and opposing attorneys for his strong work ethic, balanced treatment of all parties in a case, and a calm temperament.
Manny’s prior litigation work has given him invaluable experience in working with many different types of witnesses. Additionally, he developed an expertise in dealing with expert witnesses across a wide range of areas, including digital forensics, pathology, and mental health. He also presented before dual juries in co-defendant cases. The most valuable experience and habit he learned early in his career though was to “prepare for trial from day one. When jurors have all of the facts you empower them to do right by victims of crime and the negligent acts of others.”
Manny was raised in the Coachella Valley and attended high school locally before continuing on to California State University San Bernardino where he graduated with Honors. Manny attended Pepperdine School of Law and earned his Juris Doctorate in 2006. He is admitted and licensed to practice in California and the United States District Court, Central District of California.
Manny is a member of the Consumer Attorneys of California, Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles, and the Desert Bar Association. He has been an adjunct professor at his alma mater, California State University San Bernardino, since 2009.
Manny and his wife, Amity, who is also a practicing attorney, currently reside in the Coachella Valley with their children.
