A pedestrian was struck and killed on I-10 in Indio last Tuesday morning. The woman was struck in the eastbound lanes west of Golf Center Parkway around 4:20 a.m. She was pronounced dead at the scene, but her identity has not been released.

The vehicle involved, a Ford E-350 van, was carrying seven people. None of the occupants reported any injuries. Authorities are not sure whether drugs or alcohol contributed to the fatal incident. The crash site is not far from the Fantasy Springs Resort and Casino.

Police closed the left eastbound lane of I-10 until about 7 a.m. This incident is at least the 20th fatal pedestrian crash this year in the Coachella Valley. Last month, a Thermal resident was struck and killed while trying to warn drivers about downed utility lines.

“These pedestrian fatalities have become an epidemic in our communities. We must do more to save lives on our streets,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
