A man in a wheelchair was fatally struck while crossing the street in San Jacinto Wednesday afternoon. The fatal collision happened just after 4 p.m. near San Jacinto Avenue and Midway Street.

The man was crossing San Jacinto Avenue when he was struck by the vehicle. He was transported to the hospital, where he passed away from his injuries. Authorities shut down San Jacinto Avenue for three hours for the investigation.

The driver stopped immediately and cooperated with the investigation. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash. Officials say the victim was not using a crosswalk to cross the street when he was fatally struck.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or who has additional information to aid the investigation should contact the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department at (951) 654-2702.

“We’re sorry to hear of this deadly crash. Please remember to always use crosswalks when crossing the street,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
