Rear-End Crash at Dangerous Intersection Injures 4

Two women and two children were injured Friday in a rear-end crash in Hesperia. The accident occurred around 3 p.m. at the intersection of Maple Avenue and Hercules Street. According to Hesperia sheriff’s deputies, a Prius carrying a mother and her two children was traveling north on Maple Avenue when it was rear-ended by a Honda CRV.

Officials say the Honda driver did not notice the Prius driver slowing down to make a left turn. She then struck the back of the vehicle at an unknown speed. Roberta Lopez, a resident who lives near the intersection, ran out to assist the Prius occupants until police arrived.

The Prius driver and her 10-year-old boy were both hospitalized for chest pains. The 6-year-old girl suffered a leg fracture. A helicopter airlifted all three of them to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. The Honda driver, a female in her 20s, was also taken to the hospital by ground ambulance.

Should Drivers be Concerned about Intersection where Rear-End Crash Occurred?

Friday’s crash took place on the same Hesperia road as a crash that claimed the life of an Oak Hills woman the day prior. That crash was Hesperia’s sixth traffic fatality in 2017. Lopez says this particular intersection sees a lot of auto accidents. In fact, she believes there should be a traffic signal of some kind at that location, and expressed concern for her safety living in the vicinity. This rear-end crash is under investigation by the Hesperia Sheriff’s Station.

“We hope everyone involved in this crash recovers quickly. We also encourage residents concerned about the safety of their streets to bring those concerns up to their local law enforcement and civic leaders,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
