Reckless Driver Arrested for Pursuit and Hit-and-Run

Police arrested a reckless driver in Adelanto Friday afternoon after he led them on a pursuit that ended in a hit-and-run collision. A deputy attempted to stop the driver of a black Ford Crown Victoria who was driving erratically near Hesperia Road and Center Street in Victorville. He attempted the stop around 1:24 p.m., after spotting a wanted suspect inside the vehicle. The driver, 18-year-old Thomas Buckner, failed to pull over and fled at a high rate of speed.

Buckner continued driving recklessly, blowing through stop signs and speeding in school zones. Shortly after, the suspect caused a hit-and-run crash. Fortunately, no one was injured in that crash. Another deputy spotted Buckner driving erratically a few minutes later and attempted to pull him over. Buckner again fled, this time onto northbound I-15.

Reckless Driver Causes 2 Hit-and-Runs

He exited onto Palmdale Road and continued to lead officers around the city. Around 1:50 p.m, the suspect got onto northbound Highway 395. He caused a second hit-and-run crash near Jonathan Street and Highway 395. His vehicle collided with a Honda Civic and a Dodge Ram. Buckner attempted to flee on foot, but deputies quickly detained him. The Honda was carrying five occupants, all of whom sustained minor injuries.

Police shut down the intersection of Air Expressway and Highway 395 until about 3:30 p.m. The accident remains under investigation, and anyone with information should contact the Victorville Sheriff’s Station at (760) 241-2911.
