Red Light Runner Causes Fatal Big Rig Crash

One person was killed and two others were injured in a fatal big rig crash in San Bernardino early Tuesday morning. Police say a Lexus SUV collided with a big rig around 3 a.m. at Sierra Way and Ninth Street. The Lexus driver was taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center, where he passed away from his injuries. Two others were injured in the crash, but the extent of the injuries is unknown.

An Bernardino Police Sgt. Vicki Cervantes reported in a tweet that one of the drivers had run a red light, which caused the fatal big rig crash, but it is unclear which driver it was.

During the crash, the vehicles collided with a water valve. Diesel leaking from the vehicle then mixed with water in the intersection, which was shut down for several hours while a hazmat team worked to clean up the spill.

“Our thoughts are with the victim’s family at this difficult time,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group. “When you’re driving in the middle of the night, it might seem okay to run a red light because you assume you’re the only one on the road. As we can see in this case, it’s never a good idea to make that assumption.”
