School Bus Crashes into Pickup Truck in Hesperia

Two students were on board a school bus when it collided with a pickup truck in Hesperia on a December afternoon. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the Student First bus was going east on Mesa Street when it collided with a northbound Ford F250. The collision happened at the intersection of Mesa and Balsam Road.

The impact sent the school bus into a utility pole and a stop sign. The pickup truck then crashed through a wooden fence of a residence near the intersection.

Who is at Fault for School Bus Crash?

The CHP is investigating the school bus crash; they have not yet determined the cause of the collision. However, the intersection where the crash occurred is a two-way stop. Drivers on Mesa are required to stop for north and southbound traffic on Balsam. The speed limit on Balsam is 45 mph.

“While police have not assigned blame for the crash, it’s pretty clear the Ford driver would have the right of way at this intersection. Nevertheless, authorities should probably examine whether the intersection and the high speed limit on Balsam pose a safety risk for residents,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
