Speed Likely a Factor in I-15 Rollover Crash

An Apple Valley woman suffered major head injuries in an I-15 rollover crash last Wednesday. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the driver of a blue Chevy sedan was traveling southbound on the highway at an elevated speed when she drifted off the road. The car then made a sharp right turn and rolled over.

San Bernardino firefighters and Apple Valley Fire Protection District officials responded to the rollover crash just after 4 p.m. The Chevy driver was airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for her head trauma.

According to CHP logs, the vehicle was being driven erratically and almost hit other cars before it ran off the road. While speed was likely a factor in the crash, police are investigating whether there were other factors, like driving under the influence.

Speeding is one of the most common factors contributing to auto accidents. In 2014, speeding contributed to 28% of all fatal crashes. Among drivers in fatal accidents who were speeding, 41% of them were also driving under the influence.

“Driving over the speed limit is dangerous for everyone on the road. When excessive speed is coupled with driving under the influence, disaster is almost inevitable,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
