Theater Massacre Lawsuit Claims Property Owner Negligent

A jury has been selected in the trial of the theater massacre lawsuit brought by surviving victims and relatives of victims who died in the 2012 Aurora, Colorado mass shooting. The lawsuit claims the owner of the Century 16 Theater multiplex in Aurora failed to protect movie-goers with appropriate security personnel—specifically in light of previous shootings and violence at the property—and that the property lacked surveillance cameras and had a faulty emergency alarm. The plaintiffs also allege that security failed to intervene once the gunman began the attack.

The theater massacre lawsuit seeks damages for past and future economic losses, including medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering.  A separate suit against Cinemark USA Inc. has also been filed and will be tried in federal court in July.

James Holmes was sentenced to life in prison for the mass shooting, which killed 12 and wounded 70 on July 20, 2012.

“If the negligence of the property owners and cinema company truly contributed to the tragedy that took a dozen innocent lives, they should be held responsible for the part they played,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
