A passenger was killed in a rollover crash on I-10 near Desert Center Thursday morning. Police say a 42-year-old woman died at the scene of the crash on westbound I-10 east of Hayfield Road.

The woman was riding in a 2008 Toyota Camry when the driver ran off the right side of the freeway around 5:40 a.m. The vehicle struck an asphalt berm, then rolled over on the center divider.

There were four people in the vehicle at the time of the rollover crash. The driver, 43-year-old Xin Li, was airlifted to Loma Linda University Medical Center, along with an 8-year-old female passenger. A 33-year-old male passenger was flown to Desert Regional Medical Center. All three sustained minor injuries. According to California Highway Patrol (CHP) officials, the deceased passenger was the only occupant who was not wearing a seat belt.

CHP continues to investigate the crash, but so far they do not suspect alcohol or drugs played a role.

“We’re reminded over and over about the importance of wearing a seatbelt. Sadly, some people still ignore this common sense advice to their detriment,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
