A 76-year-old Victorville man died in a motorcycle accident in Crestline Sunday afternoon. Authorities say Richard Smith was riding his motorcycle on State Route 138 from Big Bear to Victorville when he left the roadway on a curve, then crashed. Two friends were riding with Smith at the time.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:24 p.m. The motorcycle accident is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

It is unclear what caused the motorcyclist to veer off the roadway. Riding a motorcycle, especially over a long distance, is not without its risks. However, these can be mitigated by preparing and practicing safe riding habits. Read our list of 7 safety tips for motorcyclists here.

“We’re saddened to hear of another motorcyclist losing his life. If you’re going on a long motorcycle ride, make sure you stop frequently enough that you’re not fatigued,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
