VW Settlement Will Pay Out $10 Billion to Owners

Owners of Volkswagen cars affected by the emissions scandal will receive a payout as part of the $14.7 billion VW settlement. The company will pay out $10 billion to owners of the 487,000 diesel vehicles in the U.S. The rest will to go environmental cleanup and the promotion of zero-emission vehicles.

Owners will have the option to sell the vehicles back to VW (between $12,500-$44,000 per car) or have the car fixed and receive a cash payment to compensate for the vehicle’s lost value. The EPA has not yet developed a solution that will make the vehicles compliant with environmental regulations but anticipates there will be one within six months.

Last September, VW admitted to installing software in its diesel vehicles that limited emissions during emissions testing, concealing the vehicles’ real levels, which were up to 40 times the allowable levels of certain pollutants.

The VW settlement is by far the costliest automaker settlement in history. If you believe your vehicle is affected by this settlement, visit the official informational website and look up your vehicle by VIN number to see what your options are.

“If you purchased a so-called clean diesel vehicle from VW, make sure you take advantage of this opportunity to be compensated for your loss,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
