Water Your Christmas Tree to Prevent Fires
Water Your Christmas Tree to Prevent Fires

San Bernardino County Fire is reminding Victor Valley residents to keep their Christmas trees watered to prevent fires. Freshly cut Christmas trees can absorb a gallon of water in just 24 hours, so you should check your tree everyday to see if it needs more water.

Moreover, you should make sure the water never gets lower than the tree’s base. Check thoroughly, as the tree base might not be submerged, even if your tree stand has water in it. Lack of water can cause resin to form over the cut end of the trunk, which causes the tree to stop absorbing water. This will dry the tree out, which can pose a fire hazard.

Monitor the Christmas Tree

You might be tempted to leave your tree up way into January, but it’s important to make sure you remove the tree once it is dried out. If the needles are dry and brittle and break off easily from the branches, it is time to say goodbye to the tree. If you take care of it, a Christmas tree should last about 3-4 weeks.

“Stay safe this holiday season by keeping your Christmas tree watered, and following these other holiday safety tips,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
