Is Xarelto a Dangerous Drug?
motion

Xarelto, a prescription blood thinner used to prevent blood clots and strokes, is the reason behind 1,900 lawsuits filed against manufacturers Bayer and Johnson & Johnson. Several studies have shown Xarelto can cause severe internal bleeding, which can be fatal. Xarelto is just one of many drugs/procedures that can cause serious side effects to patients.

After it was approved by the FDA in 2011, Xarelto became popular because it comes with no dietary restrictions and no routine monitoring is required, making it a more convenient option over the alternative, warfarin. But an overlooked detail about the drug is that there is a reversal agent for warfarin to stop excessive bleeding, but no such antidote exists for Xarelto. Thus, patients are more at risk of bleeding to death if Xarelto causes them to bleed internally.

In 2012, 2,081 adverse events involving Xarelto were reported, including 151 fatalities.

“The lack of a reversal agent for Xarelto is a serious oversight by the companies responsible for the drug,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group. “Patients need to be made aware of this risk before being prescribed this medication.”
