Jonathan Arnold has worked for over twenty years in the areas of personal injury, insurance, and indemnification for both individual and institutional clients. An excellent advocate, researcher and communicator, he has experience profitably legal issues across different departments and/or multiple projects and programs, aligning immediate activities to both current and future client objectives.

 

Following his graduation from the University of Southern California and after studying law at Oxford University (Magdalen College), Jonathan clerked for William F. Flahavan, the original author of The Rutter Group’s California Practice Guide: Personal Injury. During that time, he undertook statutory and case- law research to support The Rutter Group’s editorial work, including proposing “practice pointers” within the text. Additionally, he provided editorial support for The Rutter Group’s Attorney Malpractice: Risks & Solutions.

 

He researched and drafted language cited by the California Court of Appeal regarding the proper scope/application of specific jurisdiction – VirtualMagic Asia, Inc. v. Fil- Cartoons, Inc. (2002) 99 Cal.App.4th 228, 121 Cal.Rptr.2d 1, 9-11. He has been published in his own right in The California International Law Journal, where he wrote on both California’s Business & Professions Code § 17200 and choice of law. Most recently, he has been published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing, where he wrote on universal jurisdiction. Similar undertakings include his having worked as the “voice” and research attorney for several years for the Finz Advance Series on California Civil Procedure, Evidence & Tort Law. His expertise also includes having drafted a formal opinion letter accepted by Lloyd’s of London, which significantly reduced one of his client’s policy premiums by providing a detailed and focused assessment of the various legal risks.

 

Prior to joining the Walter Clark Legal Group, Jonathan worked as both plaintiff’s and defense counsel (including work as Cumis counsel). Some of his former employers include the Law Offices of William F. Flahavan, Gray, York & Duffy, LLP, Paramount Pictures and NBC. He served for 10 years as a member of the Los Angeles County Superior Court’s ADR Panel, and is continuing that work as a current member of the First Friday Voluntary Settlement Conference Program through the Desert Bar Association for the Riverside Superior Court, Palm Springs Courthouse.

 

Jonathan also worked for Boeing, advising on insurance, indemnity, financial and export issues on national and international telecommunications and space satellite programs ranging in value from $2,000,000 to $50,000,000. Additionally, he has experience drafting and negotiating contractual indemnity and related clauses includes work with Apple, Google, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, ThalesAlenia Space France and Aldi Einkauf GmbH & Co., oHG.

 

He has also worked as an adjunct professor at both California State University, Northridge and Los Angeles Valley College (teaching Insurance Law and Tort & Contract Law) and is currently a member of the Advisory Board of the College of the Desert. Jonathan is a frequent moot court competition judge at Pepperdine Law School, from where he obtained his Certificate in Mediation from the Straus Institute.
