Overturned Big Rig Causes Delays on I-10 Wednesday

An overturned big rig on I-10 in Desert Center is causing traffic delays near State Route 177 today. The crash occurred in the right lane near the State Route 177 overpass, closing down 177 between I-10 and Ragsdale Road and the off-ramp from 177 to I-10 east.

The overturned big rig spilled diesel fuel in the right lane of I-10, and a Hazmat team is on scene for the cleanup. Crews are also on scene repairing the damaged guard rail on the overpass. CalTrans reports that the lane closure will last until 3 p.m. Wednesday. Drivers are urged to take Eagle Mountain Road to Ragsdale. So far, no injuries have been reported

Big rig crashes not only account for thousands of injuries and fatalities every year, but they also take an economic toll when they lead to damages and traffic delays. On average, a commercial truck accident costs $59,150. These crashes cost Americans more than $20 billion every year.

“Try to avoid the area of this big rig crash if possible. If you have to drive near the crash site, please take caution and avoid the urge to rubber neck, as that will only increase your risk of getting into an accident,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
