A fatal train accident that occurred Saturday morning in Hesperia is under investigation. The crash occurred near Hesperia Road and Muscatel Street around 7:34 a.m. According to Sheriff’s officials, the man was walking north on the railroad tracks and was struck from behind by a northbound train.
When officers arrived, they found the man unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene shortly afterward.
Authorities have not yet been able to identify the man killed in the fatal train accident. He was wearing an orange mesh basketball jersey, black basketball shorts and Nike shoes, and he had headphones on. He was also carrying a basketball when he was struck.
See Tracks? Think Train!
Earlier this summer, a man was killed in Cabazon in a fatal train accident. It is unclear why the man, identified as 79-year-old Angel Fuentes, was on the railroad tracks.
According to Operation Lifesaver, a person or vehicle is struck by a train every three hours. Moreover, vehicles at train crossings and pedestrians walking on the tracks account for 95% of all rail-related deaths. The only time you should ever be on the tracks is to cross, and that must be done safely and only at a designated crossing. Read over our 5 safety tips to avoid a pedestrian train accident here.
“We extend our sympathies to the victim’s loved ones. Please remember that a train could be coming down the tracks at any time. Even if the train engineer sees you, it can take up to a mile for the train to come to a stop. If you see tracks, think train,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
