Five people were injured in a Desert Center crash Sunday morning on I-10. The crash happened around 10:50 a.m. near Highway 177 when a white Hyundai collided with a gray Jeep and both vehicles overturned.
The Hyundai was allegedly going 120 mph at the time of the crash. Two people were airlifted to the hospital for major injuries and the other three were taken by ambulance for minor injuries. The Riverside County Department of Animal Services came to assist with a dog that was in one of the vehicles during the Desert Center crash.
If you are involved in a crash where people have been injured, here are 7 things you should do right away:
- Whether or not you are at fault for the accident, remain on the scene until authorities arrive.
- Check on everyone who was involved in the crash. If someone is hurt, offer them assistance. However, if they say they do not want assistance, wait until first responders arrive to render aid.
- Call the police. Even if the accident is minor, it’s best to have a police report filed, especially if someone has been injured.
- Exchange information with everyone involved in the accident, including names, phone numbers, license plate numbers and insurance information.
- If there were any witnesses, try to get their information as well and ask that they stay on the scene until police arrive.
- Take photos of the accident scene, the vehicles involved and any injuries that occurred as a result.
- Get examined at the hospital. Injuries are not always apparent right away, so it’s a good idea to get checked out immediately after an accident.
