Actor Killed by Jeep Included in Rollaway Recall

The Jeep that killed actor Anton Yelchin last weekend was a model included in Fiat Chrysler’s recent rollaway recall. The 27-year-old actor best known for his roll as Chekov in the “Star Trek” film franchise died on Sunday after his Jeep rolled down his driveway and pinned him to a post in front of his home in Los Angeles.

Yelchin’s death has been ruled an accident, and it has not yet been determined whether the issue cited in the rollover recall is to blame. Fiat Chrysler filed a recall notice for 1.1 million cars and SUVs, including the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, in April 2016. A warning went out to vehicle owners in May advising them to make sure that the car is really in park before exiting the vehicle. Official recall notices have not yet been sent out, as Fiat Chrysler is still waiting on replacement parts to become available.

The issue with the vehicles, which has reportedly caused over 100 crashes, is a gear selector that makes it difficult to determine whether the car is in park. You can see if your vehicle is included in the recall by checking the NHTSA website.

“We are deeply saddened by Mr. Yelchin’s death. We hope investigators will be able to determine the cause of the accident soon,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
