A 9-year-old boy was injured on Saturday after he was carried away in a bounce house, which rolled onto the highway and struck a vehicle. The incident occurred around 3:12 p.m. near Highway 395 and Bartlett Avenue in Adelanto.
The bounce house was set up at a house in the 18200 block of Delicious Avenue when a strong gust of wind blew it away with the boy inside. The house went over a fence and onto the east side of Highway 395.
According to the Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station, the bounce house rolled onto the highway and struck a southbound vehicle. The child inside then fell out of the bounce house. He suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital. The driver of the vehicle was not injured in the incident.
Bounce houses might not seem particularly dangerous, but the Consumer Product Safety Commission reports that there were more than 113,000 injuries related to inflatables that resulted in emergency room visits from 2003 to 2013. One of the main dangers associated with bounce houses is adverse weather. Experts suggest keeping kids out of bounce houses if the winds are 20 mph or above. Gusts of high wind can blow a bounce house away, as in this incident that just occurred in Adelanto.
“Thankfully the child only sustained minor injuries in this accident—it could have been much worse. Parents, remember to keep children out of bounce houses if it is windy out,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
