Highway 111 is one of the busiest routes in Palm Springs; it’s also currently the site of a seven-week pavement rehabilitation project by the California Department of Transportation that began Monday. Needless to say, the project—which spans six miles and includes Gene Autry Trail, Vista Chino and North Palm Canyon Drive—is likely to cause some significant traffic delays over the next six weeks.
Work began last Monday on southbound Gene Autry Trail, where traffic was restricted to one lane beginning at Vista Chino.
Work is scheduled Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Drivers should expect lane closures wherever work is being done. Caltrans officials said only two miles of road will be blocked at a time. However, it’s likely that these sections will be limited to one lane, meaning traffic will probably be backed up, especially during rush hour. Drivers are encouraged to take alternate routes, like Indian Canyon Drive. The project is scheduled to be finished June 13th.
If you have questions or concerns about the pavement rehabilitation project, you can contact Caltrans at (909) 383-6290.
“The most important thing is to drive safely if you have to use these roads. Traffic might be frustrating, but keep a level head and don’t take any unnecessary risks,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
