Driver who Fatally Struck a Bicyclist Charged with Murder

Police have arrested the man who fatally struck a bicyclist in Barstow Monday. They have charged 22-year-old Raymundo Rodriguez-Cordova with the murder of 40-year-old Bennett Warner.

Cordova allegedly approached the bicyclist in his Chevy S-10 pickup truck and the two got into a verbal argument. Cordova then followed Warner from East Main Street into the Deluxe Cleaners parking lot. The pickup truck driver then rammed the bicyclist into a parked vehicle and fled the scene. Police say the incident was an intentional attack.

Citizens Help Police Find Suspect who Fatally Struck a Bicyclist

Detectives found the suspect’s license plate from a nearby surveillance camera and released Cordova’s photo to the public. On Wednesday, police received a call from a resident who saw the suspect’s truck on the 1600 block of Rimrock Road. Police found the unoccupied vehicle and confirmed it belonged to the suspect who fatally struck a bicyclist.

Another citizen spotted Cordova the following day at a business on West Main Street. Officers responded to the scene and arrested Cordova. He has been booked at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Jail.

Police are still investigating the incident. It is unclear whether the suspect knew the victim before the attack occurred, or if it was an act of road rage. Anyone with further information about this incident should contact Barstow Police at (760) 255-5187.
