Honda Recalls Vehicles for Faulty Backup Camera

Honda has issued a recall for roughly 232,000 vehicles in the U.S. for a software malfunction that affects the backup camera display. The recall includes 2018 Accords and 2019 Insight hybrid cars.

According to the automaker, the rear camera display does not work properly when the driver shifts into reverse. Fortunately, there have not been any reported crashes or injuries related to the defect. However, it makes the vehicles noncompliant with U.S. backup camera requirements. Honda dealers will perform the software update repair free of charge to vehicle owners. The recall is expected to begin Nov. 5.

Backup Cameras Became Mandatory This Year

Earlier this year, it became mandatory for new cars sold in the U.S. to be equipped with backup cameras. This feature is important because it gives the driver a full view of what is behind their vehicle as they are reversing. Backover crashes are responsible for more than 200 deaths and 12,000 injuries each year.

“The backup camera is a crucial safety feature. Make sure you respond to any recalls notices you receive for your vehicles,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
