The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is seeking input on its crash testing program. On Sept. 14, the administration will conduct a public meeting to receive feedback from various groups, including automakers, consumer safety groups, and members of the public.
The New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) is one of the agency’s initiatives to improve vehicle safety via crash tests. The program rates vehicle safety via tests that determine a vehicle’s protection for frontal, side and rollover crashes. The program also mandates that automakers include this crash avoidance information on the vehicle price stickers of new vehicles.
The NCAP also recommends automakers incorporate crash avoidance technologies like lane departure warnings and automatic braking systems, in new vehicles.
“It is important for consumers to be informed of vehicle safety ratings when purchasing a new vehicle,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
