A major multi-vehicle collision shut down Ramon Road Wednesday afternoon. The crash occurred around 2 p.m. on the Ramon Road bridge, between Landau Boulevard and Crossley Road. The accident occurred on the border of Cathedral City and Palm Springs. Authorities from both cities responded to the scene.
Police say as many as seven vehicles were involved in the pileup. Damaged vehicles were spread across all lanes of traffic, blocking the entire roadway. Several people were injured and taken to the hospital, but details on the injuries have not been released.
Rear-End Crash Might Have Started Pileup
A pickup truck hauling a cement mixer and a Mercedes sedan with a smashed hood were among the vehicles involved, but the cause of the major multi-vehicle collision remains unknown. However, some witnesses reported that the truck plowed into the Mercedes, which was stopped at a red light.
Police closed that portion of Ramon Road for about three hours while they investigated and cleared the scene.
