Multiple vehicles and a big rig were involved in a major accident on westbound Highway 60 in December. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a driver apparently braked for a tumbleweed, causing the multi-vehicle collision around 6:40 a.m.
A big rig involved in the crash ended up jackknifed across several lanes. The pile-up included at least 12 other vehicles. Two people were taken to the hospital and at least one person had to be extricated from a vehicle.
CHP officers closed Westbound Highway 60 from I-10 to Gilman Springs for four hours while multiple vehicles were towed away. Police issued a SigAlert at 7:30 a.m., urging drivers to avoid the area. Lanes reopened around 11:30 a.m.
“Sometimes braking on the highway cannot be avoided. However, drivers need to weigh whether braking will cause more harm than hitting the object in the way,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
