Takata Recalls Continue
2020 wouldn’t be complete without yet another Takata airbag recall. According to a recent statement from Volkswagen, over 105,000 Beetles manufactured between the years of 2012 and 2014 are now being recalled due to the presence of defective driver-side airbags from Takata.
For those who are not familiar with the recall, Takata airbags have been replaced in millions of vehicles around the world due to the threat of serious injury and death caused by unintended airbag rupture during deployment and spraying metal shards. In some situations, this unexpected deployment has led to catastrophic injuries and tragic deaths. What makes this recall even more important is the fact that the likelihood of these unintended ruptures increases as the airbags age. With that in mind, it is easy to understand why Volkswagen’s recall includes vehicles from this particular time period.
If your vehicle is affected by the recall, you can have your airbag replaced at no expense to you by Volkswagen. The company has annoucned that they will begin notifying vehicle owners affected by the recall in early February.
