Why You Should Rent from Hertz

Why You Should Rent from Hertz

In 2004, Enterprise rented a Chrysler PT Cruiser to Cally Houck’s daughters. The car had been recalled for a potential fire hazard.

The leaking steering fluid caught fire causing the girls to crash into another vehicle and be killed. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) was prompted to do an investigation after this case was on ABC News. They found that rental car companies are ignoring safety recalls.

Hertz Agrees to Stop Renting Recalled Vehicles

Senator Boxer and the girls’ mother asked the four major rental companies to sign a pledge not to rent or sell cars under safety recalls until they were fixed. However, only Hertz agreed to the pledge. Enterprise, Avis and Dollar Thrifty refused to sign.

Since U.S. rental car companies own more than 1.5 million vehicles, it is criminal to continue to put those under recall into the hands of drivers, unrepaired. Apparently, only Hertz has a conscience.
